Origins
In the early 1950s Gibson responded to the increasing popularity of rival Fender’s solid body electric by designing their very own in collaboration with a leading contemporary guitarist and inventor Les Paul. First appearing in 1952 as the Gibson Les Paul “Gold Top” the Standard model was introduced in 1958.
